Not being heard in NHS

Post Covid19 many people are finding it hard to explain themselves to medical professionals and have been really suffering with worsening physical or mental health: and unsure of how to move forward.

Combining my nursing, support and counselling knowledge has helped people access support on the NHS.

Relationship difficulty

Whilst I do not work directly with couples: I have found that working with one person within a relationship or family can shift and shape the dynamics to improve the well being of a household.

Exam preparation 

2026 exam season will soon be upon us.  Counselling & support can really help a person to focus and also identify difficulties with learning styles that can impede revision.  Talking through educational options, future opportunities and worries can relieve pressure upon a person or their family.

About me

I am a fully qualified  BACP  accredited Counsellor. I will work with you at your pace with my eclectic style of working: encompassing Person Centred Counselling, motivational interviewing, and Transactional Analysis.

I offer a confidential safe service for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Alongside my counselling practice, I have 25 year’s experience working in the NHS, education and charitable sector as a qualified nurse.

What information we collect, use, and why?

I collect or use the following information to identify a client and keep confidential records.:

  • Names and contact details: To arrange sessions and to contact regarding session changes. Address used in case of emergency.
  • Next of Kin: In case of emergency, such as being taken unwell in a session.
  • Health information (including dietary requirements, allergies and health conditions): In case access arrangements are needed.  Also this information helps if you become unwell in a session.
  • Financial transaction information: Record of session payment.
  • Session notes – Brief anonymous notes of our sessions, in line with my indemnity insurance and my professional governing body (The British Association Counselling & Psychotherapy)

Lawful bases

My lawful bases for collecting or using personal information is to identify a client and keep confidential records.  Lawfully this relates to:

  • Consent
  • Contract

Where I get personal information from

  • People directly


How is it stored?

  • I have a password protected laptop for electronic communication that only I can access.  My email has a two-stage authentication process to my mobile that is accessible only by me.
  • I have brief paper session notes.  No identifiable data is on these except initials.  These are stored in a safe that has a passcode.
  • I have software to attempt to mitigate against online virus threats and pay a fee to the provider for an additional layer of protection.

How long I keep information?

Notes are kept securely and retained for 7 years identifiable by a code only.  This is in line with good practice and obligations set by the membership organisations that guide my practice.

Who I share information with?

I only share relevant information when there is a risk of harm to yourself, or another person and that risk is imminent and life changing or life ending. 

  • Organisations:  sharing information with for safeguarding reasons.
  • Emergency services (where necessary)
  • Court: If I am subpoenaed by a court I am legally obliged to review that request and share what is appropriate.  I will work openly and honestly with you.
  • Supervision: to ensure that I work safely & ethically I discuss my work with another trained counsellor who is senior to me.  If I talk about clients I do not use any identifiable information.

 

Your data protection rights.

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal data.

Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal data you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal data in certain circumstances.

Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.

Your right to object to processing - You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal data you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

Your right to withdraw consent – When we use consent as our lawful basis you have the right to withdraw your consent.

You don’t usually need to pay a fee to exercise your rights. If you make a request, we have one calendar month to respond to you.
